Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.” Psalm 68:19-20
It will be quite a day when we get to heaven. I am sure we each have quite a list of questions for God. Something He may show us when we get to heaven is all the ways He has saved us from harm over our lifetime.
Most of us have never had a bodyguard but it is nice to know that we have the God of Heaven watching over us. There are certainly times in my family when God has protected us from certain harm. The most noteworthy was when we had just received a brand-new car. We were driving across Canada on the Trans-Canada Highway, and it was lunch time, so we stopped and ate. When we got back in the car, it would not start no matter what Bill tried. We were baffled. Then Bill thought he would try one more time, and it started. After driving 10 minutes up the highway, we discovered that we had just missed a huge accident. God was watching over us.
This past summer, Bill (my husband) was invited up to a First Nations reserve in Northern Ontario to minister to the people. There are many dogs in the community that wander freely. Some are friendly but many are not. Bill was told that no one walks through the reserve. Bill wanted to walk and to pray and see where God would lead him. On the first morning, there was a huge dog waiting for Bill and he followed him everywhere he went and waited for him at any home or building he stopped at. Our son knows this dog as he often works at this reserve. I asked him, “Does this dog do this often?” He told me, “Mom, it is unheard of.” Dogs would approach Bill throughout the week, and this dog would stand between them and Bill. He kept Bill safe all week. Bill said on the last day that another dog joined him and now he had two dogs who walked with him. I think it is neat how creative God is. I wonder what was ever said to this dog??!
Anyway, the point is, God watches over us. I am sure you also have wonderful stories of God’s watch care over you and your family. Sometimes though, it is very hard to understand why God didn’t step in to protect. I know this can be a very troubling and challenging thing to get our heads around. In these times, I remember that there are some things we will never know this side of heaven. What we do know is that God loves us and cares for us, and that He is in charge of the escapes of death and peril, many of which we may well have no idea of... at least not yet!
Dear Father,
Thank You for the way You watch over us and keep us safe. Thank You for all the times in my life and the life of my loved ones, that You have watched over us. I know Father, there are times when You have stepped in, that I have no idea of. Thank You, Father. My life is in Your hands.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
