Perspective matters in this life as we navigate all kinds of seasons. We go through seasons where life is going as we feel it should; sunny days interspersed with gentle rain falls. As a pastor’s wife who has been in ministry for many years, I have learned that this is not the only season and to maintain a correct view of God regardless of what the season is.

I have had many opportunities over the years to become bitter and give in to despair. However, I have learned this one truth that has made all the difference.

When I would see people leave the church, I would be crushed over and over again until one day the Lord gave me this picture. He was driving a tractor, and the church was all seated on the hay wagon. He would drive us through this forest, but sometimes He stopped and let people off while others would jump on and we would keep going. The Lord knew where He was going and was not panicked at all. He was clearly in charge. Those whom I was so troubled by, He was actually letting them off the wagon. It was His idea. This put my heart at ease. My trust was and is in Him.

Reminding ourselves that God is in charge and is the Sovereign head over this world, is a big deal. When I read the news these days, it can truly put me into panic mode. Then the passage from Daniel comes to mind.

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him. I thank and praise You, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, You have made known to me what we asked of You, You have made known to us the dream of the king.” Daniel 2:20-23

Daniel was living through tumultuous times indeed. The King was a bit on the crazy side of the spectrum. He was not only unpredictable but unreasonable and harsh. When the demand came from the King in Daniel 2, not only did the wise men of the day have to come up with the meaning of the dream, but also what the dream was! The wise men of the land were in a panic; there was no way they could come up with what his dream was. They likely struggled to remember their own! They were all threatened with a tormenting death and not for themselves only but their families as well. They were indeed stressed. Finally, Daniel heard about it and his response was very different. He told the King, give me some time to pray to the God of Heaven, and I will tell you the dream.

Daniel’s confidence did not rest on this mighty earthly king but rather in God who is All Wise and All Powerful and Sovereign over all. God heard the earnest prayers of Daniel and his friends, and the dream was revealed and the meaning of the dream was given as well.

Wherever you find yourself these days, whatever challenges, remember that God is a Sovereign All mighty God. He is ultimately in charge. He will give us what we need for every season.

Dear Father,

Thank You that I can trust You in every season of my life. I put my trust in You and thank You for holding my life in Your hands. You alone are God and there is no other.
